Google Maps works offline
Best overall maps app
Google Maps is the king of maps and deservedly so. It's fast, constantly updated, accurate, and can be used across the vast majority of the world. They also have specific features that make traveling easier: offline maps, public transit info for many cities, and a lot of content for finding interesting local attractions.
Maps.me works offline
Great backup and when offline usage is important
Despite Google Maps adding offline features, Maps.me is still better in that area in a few ways:
- Offline maps are smaller in size and quicker to load than Google Maps
- Walking and biking routes still work offline but they don't on Google Maps
- Offline maps can be downloaded for anywhere, including areas Google Maps won't let you
KakaoMap
Best maps for South Korea
While Google Maps is technically available in South Korea, it's data is very basic due to laws limiting foreign companies from mapping the country. KakaoMap is the best local option there and now also added an English language option.

Best for China (only comes in Chinese though)
